Every marathon has a story behind it, and the St. Pete Marathon’s starts with Scott Fishman.

Scott Fishman is the Executive Director of the St. Pete Marathon and Chairman of the Board of United Sports Association, the Florida non-profit producing the race. But long before he was building a marathon, Scott was building athletes.

From the Court to the Coaching Staff

Scott played professional basketball in the EBA for the Virginia Wolverines and North Jersey Pros. When his playing career ended, he moved into coaching, and over the next 20 years built training programs for hundreds of athletes, teams, and organizations through Team All-American, the company he founded.

He holds a degree in Education from the University of Miami and studied Sports Psychology at the United States Sports Academy. He’s a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, with additional certifications from USA Basketball, USA Track & Field, and USA Weightlifting.

The EFFORT Framework

Scott is also the author of EFFORT, a book laying out the framework he built coaching athletes: Hard, Smart, and Consistent. It’s the same framework now guiding his work as a performance consultant and keynote speaker for organizations and leadership teams, built on a simple principle: talent gets the credit, effort does the work. Building United Sports Association

Scott founded United Sports Association to bring that same discipline to the running community in St. Petersburg. As Chairman of the Board, he oversees the organization’s mission of improving lives through sports, and as Executive Director, he’s leading the inaugural St. Pete Marathon from concept to starting line on December 19, 2027.
